Jennifer Maruno

Jennifer Maruno has received the Elementary Teachers’ Federation Writers Award, The Award of Excellence from the Canadian Association of Communications and The Award of Merit from the National School Public Relations Association.

She is the author of eight novels for young readers as well as seven picture books, all which have received starred reviews and recognition. Most recently, While You Sleep (Pajama Press) was selected for the 2023 Bank Street College of Education Best Children’s Books of the Year. Momma’s Going to March (Groundwood Books) won the 2025 Horace Manning Upstander Award and the 2025 Stepping Stones Honor Award. The Go-Between (Red Deer Press) was awarded the 2025 Stepping Stones Honor Award and nominated for the USIBBY International novel award. The Go-Between has also been shortlisted for the Geoffrey Bilson Historical Fiction Award and the Hamilton Arts Award.

Her work with the Parent and Child Program for Penguin Books Canada Ltd. involved Toronto radio stations and newspapers as well as interviews for CBC Radio Programming giving a Principal’s views on summer learning. Other presentations include

Jennifer is a moderator for the Burlington Authors Group as well as mentor to students in the Dawson College illustrators program. She lives in Burlington, Ontario with her husband and her collection of David Austen Roses.

WEN Plans 25th Anniversary Anthology

WEN was founded in 2001. Below is a photo of the founders.

2026 will mark the 25th Anniversary of the Writers and Editors Network Association. To mark the occasion, WEN is planning to publish an Anthology of Poems and Short Stories by members. This will be our fourth anthology and the title will be Canadian Imprints, Volume IV, 25th Anniversary. WEN is currently soliciting entries from members and the target is to publish the anthology by the fourth quarter of 2026 and to celebrate our 25th Anniversary at the Annual Holiday Party in December, 2026.
