Breakfast Meeting, September 19, 2026

Darlene Madott is an award-winning author of 10 books, including Winners and Losers, Dying Times, Making Olives and Other Family Secrets (Ripasso), Stations of the Heart, and Joy, Joy, Why Do I Sing?.  Winners and Losers (her 9th book)grew out of her legal practice of over 3 decades, andwas named The Miramichi Readers Best of2023. She has twice won the Bressani Literary Award and was shortlisted for the Vanderbilt-sponsored Carter V. Cooper EXILE editions award three times, and for the inaugural Nona Heaslip Best Canadian Short Stories Award. Widely anthologized, she has participated in international literary conferences, as an invited plenary-panel speaker on Alice Munro for the International Conference of the Short Story, which took place in Killarney, Ireland, 2025, and in May 2026, at the University of Tuscia, as part of a 20th Biennial AICW Conference in Viterbo, Italy. Author Guy Vanderhaeghe has described her short stories as “haunting meditations by a fine artist blessed with a scrupulous intelligence.” Caterina Edwards: “Madott’s short stories remind me of why I love the genre. They need to be read and reread. So many left me breathless in admiration.” She has been translated into Italian and published by the prestigious Les Flâneurs Edizioni, Italy. Darlene’s 10th book, Closing Ceremonies and Dying Times, now includes a resurrected Dying Times—a perfect pairing on love and grief.

Of all her life’s accomplishments, Darlene feels the greatest of these to be raising her son to manhood and participating in the lives of two growing grandchildren.

2026 will mark the 25th Anniversary of the Writers and Editors Network Association. To mark the occasion, WEN is planning to publish an Anthology of Poems and Short Stories by members. This will be our fourth anthology and the title will be Canadian Imprints, Volume IV, 25th Anniversary. WEN is currently soliciting entries from members and the target is to publish the anthology by the fourth quarter of 2026 and to celebrate our 25th Anniversary at the Annual Holiday Party in December, 2026.
