We have three anthologies out \u2013 <strong>Thirteen<\/strong>, <strong>13 O\u2019Clock<\/strong> and <strong>13 Claws<\/strong>.\u00a0 Many of the Mesdames are well-known authors in their own right who deliver cracking good workshops and talks. One, some or all of us is\/are available for just about any speaking (and book sale) opportunity<strong>. <\/strong><strong>Here\u2019s what we can deliver<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Mesdames Group Talks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the top drawer: getting that manuscript published<\/p>\n<p>Crazy thought? So you might want to be an author<\/p>\n<p>You bet women rule the crime-writing world<\/p>\n<p>Why we just love mysteries<\/p>\n<p>Canadian mystery writers you should know about (and a couple of Brits and Yanks as well)<\/p>\n<p>A little help from our friends: why we believe in writing groups and collectives like ours<\/p>\n<p>Branding, posting and other promotional tricks and tools<\/p>\n<p>Where we get our ideas. Hint: They\u2019re not just ripped from the headlines<\/p>\n<p>So you want to do an anthology. Learn the pitfalls, perils and payoffs from the Mesdames who have done it<\/p>\n<p>The art \u2013 and blood, sweat and tears \u2013 of writing a short story<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Mesdames Group Workshops\/Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ad lib: Learn how to harness your imagination by joining the Mesdames in an improv plotting session<\/p>\n<p>Do you know your stuff?\u00a0 We read the opening of famous (or maybe not) mystery novels. The audience name the books.<\/p>\n<p>Idea Fest: \u00a0The Mesdames get ideas \u2013 everywhere from the dime store to the doctor&#8217;s office.\u00a0 How can the audience get \u2018em? They are about to find out in this high-octane, audience-participation idea improvisation session.<\/p>\n<p>Edit Fest: Bring forth those novels, short stories, and yet-to-be published bestsellers. The Mesdames are ready for them with their poised blue pens and pencils. Make it a social evening and everyone gets to be a critic!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Talks and Workshops by Individual Mesdames:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Madame <strong>Rosemary McCracken<\/strong> has written three mysteries featuring financial planner Pat Tierney. The first one \u2013 <strong>Safe Harbor<\/strong> \u2013 was shortlisted for Britain&#8217;s prestigious Debut Dagger award. She teaches novel writing at George Brown Community College.\u00a0 One of her workshops covers the <u>four-act plot structure of any good novel<\/u>. In another workshop, Rosemary <u>assesses and edits the first page of participants\u2019 novels in progress.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Madame<strong> Melodie Campbell <\/strong>has been hailed as Canada\u2019s queen of comedy. <strong>The Bootlegger\u2019s Goddaughter <\/strong>is shortlisted for the 2018 Ontario Library Association Golden Oak award. <strong>The Goddaughter\u2019s Revenge <\/strong>won the Derringer Award and the Arthur Ellis Award for Crime Writing.\u00a0 She has taught fiction writing at Sheridan College since 1992. Melodie\u2019s <u>workshop on crime-fiction writing <\/u>has been given at many libraries.\u00a0 <strong>Please note:<\/strong> <strong>This workshop involves an honorarium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In her workshops, Madame <strong>Lisa de Nikolits<\/strong> explores <u>16 \u2013 count \u2018em \u2013 shades of crime noir<\/u>. Want to know what they are? Revenge noir, short story noir, literary noir, young adult noir, noir love, noir soundtracks, noir@twitter, Toronto noir, Dystopian noir, graphic noir.\u00a0 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>She can also talk about <u>self-editing and how to become a better writer<\/u>. \u00a0And <u>how to write the traditional narrative arc. <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Versatile Madame <strong>Caro Soles<\/strong> writes mysteries, erotica, gay lit, the occasional bit of dark fantasy, and science fiction. She won the Derrick Murdoch Award from the Crime Writers of Canada. Her latest novel, <strong>A Friend of Mr. Nijinsky<\/strong>, is the inspiration for this workshop: <u>Historical mysteries; more than just dressing up your characters in muslin and ribbons!<\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> H. Callway\u2019s<\/strong> debut novel, <strong>Windigo Fire<\/strong>, was short-listed for the Debut Dagger and the Unhanged Arthur awards, but getting traditionally published still proved to be a challenge.
